After a month delay due to torrential weather in Texas, round 3 of 4 of the Texas Electric On-Road Series was held at Hobbytown USA in Austin, Texas this past Sunday. 60 entries would be present between the 6 classes for some classic grass-roots parking lot racing. Qualifying points from the driver’s best two out of three qualifying rounds would be used to setup the single mains. There was 2 bump-ups from each lower main. The off-camber track and extremely hot conditions would develop a push for most cars, causing drivers to search for steering and rotation.

XRAY was well represented at the race by current Modified National Champion Chris Adams, Andrew Doherty, Guillaume Herve, and Jose Moreno as well as a large amount of independent drivers.

17.5 sedan was a show down between XRAY and the competition drivers. Andrew, Jose, and Guillaume would have to settle in for the 3rd - 5th place qualifying spots before the main.

The 17.5 main proved to be one of the most exciting races of the day. The field snaked around the track until inadvertent contact dropped Guillaume and Andrew to the back for the time being. The top two qualifying cars both had mechanical issues leaving Jose Moreno a clean path to the front and the win; backing up his earlier win in USGT. A local privateer Billy Land clawed his way to second overall from 8th on the grid. A hard charging Guillaume would make his way back up through the field for a 3rd place finish.

Modified sedan in recent years has been a battle between myself (Chris Adams) and local racer Brandon McNally. This race was no exception. Brandon, a local to Austin, was able to take two of the three qualifiers and put himself at the top spot for the main event.

The main started off pretty uneventful up front. Brandon and I pulled away from the field for a few laps until he made a mistake in the chicane allowing me to get by and cruise to the victory and win my 4th Texas EOS championship in as many years. Brandon and Chris Kemper finished off the podium.
